Day 3 - Can It Get Any Better
Wow! If I can put this into words, this might be it. Today, at a project that I and few of the students were at, this is happened…
One of the oldest boys at the home we were working on made a definite decision to accept Christ as his Lord & Savior. One of our additional adults on my team had been sharing with him the day prior (refer to the notes of Day 2 to know how that day would be characterized) and continued his conversation today with him. The conversation was started by these words - I wanted to accept Christ last night, but I didn’t know how to do it - all I knew was that I needed Christ in my life now. He had read the bible all night - diving deep into what had been shared with him prior in the day. When we arrived, he met us almost immediately and said I need to pray that prayer to asked Jesus to come into my life. How awesome is that! It gets more divine - one of my greatest fears is that we (Christians) can tend to leave out the “discipleship” follow up part for new Christians. My fear was answered by a divine plan that God knew and knit together. Each day a different person from a different church brings our lunch to us onsite. Today, a lady showed up and introduced herself and explained that she was the pastor’s wife of a local church. We shared the news of what had happened earlier and CHECK THIS OUT…the boy who accepted Christ was in this lady’s 4/5 yr. old VBS class years back! She knew him right off and an immediate connection was made. The excitement was not only in her face but his as well - knowing he already knew of a place he could go for Church for his continued growth and connection.
That was awesome! Everyone is doing great! All of the students are excited and the anticipation of the next day’s work is very motivating for them. Many of our kids are wresting with some things in their lives - causing them to ask questions and seek counsel. No injuries, no bad attitudes, and no HOT weather - it’s been incredible! Tonight’s service was called “a concert of prayer” - walking the students through a very powerful and insightful experience of deep diving: adoration, confession, thankfulness, and supplication. Imagine 400 people writing on a huge sheet their personal message to God of what they are thankful for - too cool. Imagine 400 people coming to grips with the sin in their lives and writing it on a black sheet of paper…then placing at the foot of the cross…wowsers! Tonight was a deep inhale and exhale of our spiritual lives. From Chicago to LCC…we miss ya’ll. But know this, God is working in and through 21 LCCers here in Chicago and the impacts have eternity written all over them. Good night from a room of sleeping World Changers -
