Fearful Leadership

I embrace that fear in leadership is healthy. That God will allow us to go through fearful situations in order for us to renew our passion and desperation for Him! I hear many speak out of arrogance to not be fearful for HE is with us. HE is with us, no disputing that. However, if we are going to be transparent - I know there are times that leaders face scary times or decisions. If you would say otherwise, help me understand where pride and arrogance wouldn’t come in. Let me say a couple of things…

I was scared of going to a Church that was much smaller than any I had experienced ministry before thinking I have no clue how these people are wired…

I was scared about having to sell a house in west Texas where nobody moves to and finding a place in DFW where we were moving to…

I was scared when God said “it’s time” when I returned to ministry full-time…

I was scared when God blessed my incredible wife and I with our first baby girl - I’m not qualified to do this, older more mature people have babies…

I was scared when I had to make a decision recently that tore me up deeply on the inside…

But in each of these, I can also say God was painting on this HUGE canvas that I could only see pieces of. And so far, wow! what a painter HE IS!

The role of leadership is scary to me, but I am so thankful because if I were not scared…it would result in pride and arrogance. I know that I cannot do a thing unless God moves and interacts. My prayer is that I will always be willing to face my fears and know that God is in complete control.
